We were recently at an airport, waiting to board a flight to the now tornado disheveled South. I wandered off to find a magazine for the flight. After scanning The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, The Economist, Harpers… couldn’t make a decision because each magazine had only one, two articles I wanted to read.
It suddenly struck me: this is the buy a bad music CD to get one good song dilemma repeated – in print! I ended up buying the latest Vanity Fair, hoping Rob Lowe and Paul Allen could capture my attention at least until Colorado [we were flying to Georgia]. They did, sort of. But the bad taste remained. There must be a digital solution to the magazine dilemma [software solves so many dilemmas these days].
I’ll keep looking, and stop buying magazines.
